The morning after pill is not abortifacient

Confirmed, levonorgestrel (the active ingredient of the pill the next day) does not interfere with the implantation of a fertilized egg, say the latest studies by the International Consortium for Emergency Contraception (ICEC) and the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO .) This is just false beliefs about the pill is an abortifacient. "The available evidence shows that the main mechanism of action of this contraceptive method is prevent or delay ovulation, and confirms that implementation does not interfere with or affect endometrial thickness, "say the two scientific groups in a note.

A medication abortion? This idea was at the bottom encouraged by the early studies, which recorded a supposed wall alterations of the endometrium. This had a double meaning: for some reinforced the idea of its effectiveness (also served if intercourse occurred when the woman had already ovulated). But for others (those who believe that a fertilized egg as a person) was an abortive trial basis at the level of the IUD. The idea advanced in 2010 while still 57% of the leaders of medical schools felt the morning-after pill was abortive, and 7% had even denied that contraceptive action, according to a study conducted the Medical College, but now those doubts are cast down.
