Less salt is more healthy

The Food Standards Agency (AESAN) under the Ministry of Health has launched a website and a profile on 'Twitter' for the Spanish to know the salt consumed daily, the amount 'hidden' in this condiment containing foods and how to cook in a healthier way.

These are the challenges of Plan 'Take care +. Less salt is healthier ', released today by the president of the AESAN, Roberto Sabrido. This initiative within the Action Plan to reduce salt consumption in Spain, started in 2010 and has already achieved, through an agreement with the Bakers, cut in four years by 20% salt containing the bread in Spain .

Sabrido as highlighted more than 80% of the Spanish consume more salt than recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). In addition, the average intake of this spice in Spain is 9.9 grams per person per day , almost twice as recommended by the WHO which is a maximum of 5 grams per day.

"70% salt salt we consume is 'hidden', ie present in the foods we eat (such as sausages or prepared foods and other products) and incorporate it does not depend on ourselves," recalled the president of the AESAN.

To find out how much salt a person actually consumes per day, what foods contain more salt 'hidden' or how to cook more healthy, AESAN has launched the website 'www.plancuidatemas.es'.

This Internet site may be registered in the so called 'Friends Club' where, answering eight simple questions, receive daily e-mail for 20 days with healthy advice tailored to your age, lifestyle, type of work, food and level of physical activity.
