Romance novels are hazardous to health

The romances of fiction may be giving wrong lessons about life, some of them dangerous to our sexual health . And is that according to a new study, the novel's characters encourage the practice of unsafe sex among readers. The author of this research , Susan Quilliam , writes: "To be honest, we like condoms-to protect and contraception, because they do not. In a recent survey, only 11.5% of studied romance novels mentioned condom use, and within these scenarios, the heroine usually rejected the idea because it would not have wanted 'no barrier' between her and her hero. " As reported in The Huffington Post , the author also points out that the same survey found a relationship between the avid readers of romance novels and a negative attitude toward condoms, and argues that gender is capable creating unrealistic expectations about romance, marriage and sexual pleasure. Quilliam urges readers of romance novels to pay attention, and that gender may be their only source of sex education: "In some Western countries, almost half fiction books purchased are romance novels, some fans read up to 30 titles a month. Thus, while exposure of women to sex education and relationships may be limited to just a few hours all his life, exposure to this learning can happen fictional every day of the week.
