5 things you can do to prevent breast cancer
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime , and although men will develop the disease, women are 100 times more likely to do so. The National Cancer Institute reports that more than 207,000 women were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 and about 40,000 thousand of them died of this disease . There are some factors over which we have no control and can contribute to the risk of developing cancer. These include family history, our genetics, age and gender, and menstrual cycles, those who started their period before age 12 are at greater risk. But there are many things we can change to reduce this danger. Then, 5 things you can do to prevent breast cancer : Maintain a healthy weight This is key to maintaining healthy weight and reduce the risk of developing any cancer. Obesity remains a growing problem in the country, and so do the many health problems that result from it. Watch your consumption of meat The NIH recommends that people limit their consumption of both processed meats as red meat. Both have been linked to increase in certain types of cancers. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables Fruits and vegetables should be the cornerstone of our daily diet. These are supplied with nutrients and antioxidants that our body needs to fight free radicals and help to reduce rates of cancer risk. Limit your intake of alcohol Taking more than one or two alcoholic drinks a day increases the risk of developing breast cancer. Therefore, it is recommended that women drink no more than one glass of alcohol a day. Those who already have a higher risk of developing this disease should stop drinking alcohol. Exercise Staying physically active and do enough exercise is important for maintaining good health and to maintain an ideal weight. To do this, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that people try to make at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise every week, 75 minutes of intense aerobic activity per week, or a combination of loved. This means that each person should do at least 30 minutes of moderate activity a day for five days a week. Additionally, those who are taking a long-term hormone therapy should talk with their doctors about alternatives, because this may increase your risk of developing this disease. There are also ongoing research on the relationship between air pollution and increased risk of breast cancer. "Prevention is the first step to take when it comes to our health," says Pam McCullough, director of program Woodbridge nursing campus of Stratford University . About the things we can change to prevent this disease, McCullough says, "It is important that we take seriously and apply them to our lives.
