Have lots of sex may discard as organ donor

People who have had two or more sexual partners in the past 12 months could be ruled out as organ donors for being too promiscuous , according to new health guidelines established in the United States. The motion, proposed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), aims to reduce the chance of accidental contagion of infections that threaten life, such as HIV and hepatitis B and C .

However, the changes in these guidelines have sparked debate and experts in organ donation, they fear that these rules result in the loss of potential donors. "With the new guidelines, each student in the United States will be at high risk," says Dr. Harry Dorn-Arias, transplant surgeon at the University of Virginia. But Dr. Matthew Kuehnert, director of the office of blood, organs and tissues of the CDC, defended the proposal saying, "It is oriented to the patient, so that they know everything possible about the organ that has to transplant.

"Official figures show that more than 28.000 organs are transplanted each year in the U.S., with more than 112,000 people on the waiting list to receive an organ from a donor .
