The macular degeneration related to age (AMD, for its acronym in English) is a serious medical condition that may make it difficult or impossible to read or recognize faces. It is also one of the main causes of visual impairment in adults over 50 years. The Study of Women's Health, which included almost 40,000 women with a mean age of 55 years, reported that those who ate fish such as canned tuna, salmon or sardines once a week had a 40 percent lower risk of developing macular degeneration related to age, compared with those that did not include fish in their diet.
